Ricky Naputi 900 Pound Man In Guam Died From Morbid Obesity Before Surgery

TLC followed Ricky Naputi for years for their special, “900 Pound Man: The Race Against Time.” Naputi lived in Guam and had not been out of his apartment in years because of his weight. It was estimated he consumed about 10,000 calories a day and had grown in size to 900 pounds at one point.

He was cared for by his wife, Cheryl, who was loyally by his side through everything. She dealt with struggles, like not being able to consummate their marriage, but loved her husband.

He’d been told to lose weight before he could undergo a surgery that could potentially save his life. Unfortunately, Naputi didn’t make it to that. His wife was by his side and she was the one who found him and made the 9-1-1 call, which was played on the special.

Moore, Oklahoma: Survivors Of Monster Tornado Started The Hard Rebuilding Task

Moore, Oklahoma: Survivors of the killer tornado that ripped through this Oklahoma City suburb rolled up their sleeves Wednesday under a blazing sun and got down to the long, hard task of rebuilding their lives.

Local authorities in Moore deemed it safe for everyone who lived within the 17-mile (27-kilometer) long disaster zone to return to their homes, or what little remained of their homes, to collect whatever belongings they could.

Twenty-four people died when the twister, packing winds of 200 miles per hour, cut through Moore with only a few minutes' notice Monday afternoon. Two of the fatalities were infants, just four and seven months old.

President Barack Obama is set to meet survivors Sunday and inspect the awesome scale of the destruction Sunday in a tight-knit community that suffered an even deadlier tornado in May 1999 that followed roughly the same track.

The preliminary causes of death for the two dozen fatalities included blunt force trauma, asphyxiation and, in the babies' case, head trauma, according to the Oklahoma Medical Examiner's Office.

Rio Ferdinand Has Signed A One Contract Extension With Man United

London:  Rio Ferdinand has signed a one-year contract extension with Manchester United, the Premier League champions announced on Thursday.

The 34-year-old centre-back, who signed from Leeds United in 2002, announced his retirement from international football last week and says he is eager to start work with new manager David Moyes.

"I am delighted to have signed for another year and I am looking forward to working with the new manager," said Ferdinand.

"Who wouldn't want to play in this fantastic team in front of 75,000 fans each week? It has been an incredible journey and I am glad it will continue.

"I can now fully concentrate on my club career, which has worked well for me over the past few years. This is a great team to be part of and we are now moving into a new era with the club, which is very exciting."

Moyes, who will officially succeed Alex Ferguson as manager on July 1, said he was pleased Ferdinand had committed himself to another season at Old Trafford.

"It is clear for everyone to see that Rio has had one of his best seasons with the club," he said.

"Even from the outside, you can see what a big character Rio is around the dressing room. I am delighted he has signed a new contract and I am looking forward to working with him."

The British Soldier Butchered By Islamic Extremists Once Served In Afghanistan.

Soldier killed in London had served in Afghanistan

London: The British soldier butchered on the streets of London by two suspected Islamists was a 25-year-old father who had fought the Taliban in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence said on Thursday.

Officials named the victim of Wednesday's bloody attack near a military barracks in Woolwich as Lee Rigby, a machine-gunner with 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.

A lifelong Manchester United fan and a drummer in the military band, he had also served in Germany and Cyprus but was at the time of his death working in London.

"An extremely popular and witty soldier, Drummer Rigby was a larger than life personality within the Corps of Drums and was well known, liked and respected across the Second Fusiliers," said a statement from the Ministry of Defence.

"A loving father to his son Jack, aged two years, he will be sorely missed by all who knew him. The regiment's thoughts and prayers are with his family during this extremely difficult time."

His commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Jim Taylor, said Rigby was a "true warrior", while other colleagues paid tribute to his bubbly personality and sense of humour.

Blackberry Now To Focus Mainly On Service

BlackBerry no longer owns the fast-paced, innovative smartphone world but the company, whose email-on-your-hip devices once revolutionised the industry, now aims to run it.
The change in focus was hard to miss at the company's well-attended annual conference in Florida last week, even as news of a new smartphone model and its plans to offer the popular BlackBerry Messaging (BBM) instant message service on other platforms grabbed the headlines.
The company, whose BlackBerry Enterprise Service (BES) offering has long allowed customers to manage BlackBerry devices within corporate or government networks, is now extending that feature to let customers manage non-BlackBerry devices. It is also providing security for data regardless of what devices the customers use.
"The most exciting announcement they made is their strategy to provide secure infrastructure across devices and secure iOS and Android devices in addition to BlackBerry devices," said Yaacov Cohen, who heads Harmon.ie, a company that gives users access to corporate collaboration tools such as IBM Connections and Microsoft Office 365 across a range of operating systems.
Although the move has long been anticipated, the official launch of BES 10.1 paves the way for enterprise customers to begin upgrades in the latter half of the year, a development that might also boost sales for the company's new line of Blackberry 10 smartphones.
Because it routes data through proprietary networks rather than open channels, BlackBerry has long been known among government agencies and corporations for its strong security features. Its new one-stop solution keeps it relevant for those customers even as rivals like Apple Inc and Samsung Electronics look to make inroads in the domain.
"I look at BlackBerry as a provider of infrastructure for mobile computing," Cohen said. "When you look at things from this angle, given the huge need for secure infrastructure, then the position of BlackBerry can be one of total leadership, something similar to what Microsoft achieved during the switch to personal computing.

Eva Longoria had an interesting Wednesday night ... she GRADUATED from a master's program at Cal State University Northridge ... and TMZ has the video!

First off ... this was NO honorary degree -- 38-year-old Eva quietly busted her ass for the past 3 years (taking classes IN PERSON) to earn a master's degree in Chicano and Chicana Studies from CSUN.

A rep for Longoria tells us ... Eva began the program while she was still working on "Desperate Housewives" and found time to complete her schoolwork on the set.

We're told Eva's thesis was titled, "Success STEMS From Diversity: The Value of Latinas in STEM Careers." FYI -- STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math.

After the ceremony, Eva celebrated like any other student -- she went out to dinner with her parents!

She also tweeted about the graduation yesterday -- writing, "Big day today!!! Very excited to graduate for my Master's degree in Chicano Studies! You're never too old or too busy to continue your education!"
